FBI officials blocked investigative activity in the Hunter Biden investigation, labeling the evidence as false information.

“If these allegations are true and correct, the Department of Justice and the FBI – and the institution – are so corrupt that the US Congress and the American people have no confidence in the equal application of the law,” Mr. Grassley of Iowa said. wrote, who is the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Justice Department and the FBI did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In May, Mr. Grassley asked the Justice Department’s inspector general to investigate Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault and others who led the FBI’s investigation of Hunter Biden in 2020 when Hunter’s father, now President Biden, was impeached. , was running for the White House.

Mr. Thibault has come under fire for allegedly biased social media posts, including retweeting posts from the Lincoln Project and other anti-Trump groups and criticizing Republicans. Since then, she has kept her social media content hidden from public view.

In his letter, Mr. Grassley wrote that whistleblowers told him that the Justice Department and the FBI needed to follow strict instructions to open an investigation and alleged that Mr. Thibault did not follow those instructions.

The whistleblowers also revealed that Mr. Thibault stopped the inquiry into Hunter Biden in October 2020 because it was false information, even though some details were known to be correct at the time, according to the senator.

“All of the reporting (in the case) was either corroborated or verifiable by a criminal search warrant,” he wrote, adding that Mr. Thibault “ordered the matter closed without assigning any valid reason as required.”

FBI officials “later attempted to improperly flag the case in FBI systems so that it could not be opened in the future,” Mr. Grassley alleged.
