Victoria Chamber recovers shipping costs for members until Black Friday – Victoria News

From today until Black Friday, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce will cover the cost of shipping merchandise purchased from member businesses using member courier services.

“To help people choose to shop at Greater Victoria retailers this holiday season, the chamber puts our money where our mouth is and pays for shipping,” said chamber CEO , Bruce Williams, in a press release. “We all benefit from a strong regional economy and it is up to each of us to do our part to contribute to the recovery underway.

The initiative – in which the chamber will assume up to $ 50,000, Williams told Black Press Media – will apply to the more than 100 companies that are chamber members (see a full list here), and will be facilitated with Maximum Express Courier and Freight, with whom the chamber has a “long-standing relationship,” said Williams.

“We just want to allow people to shop with a local business – something you could buy online with another big platform, which claims to have free shipping even though that cost is built into what they get. charge, ”he said. “We are now literally doing free shipping. We will pay for it. If a business is a member of the chamber, they can place their order and we will pay for the mail on their behalf. “

After asking Victoria residents to shop locally, Williams said the chamber would like to teach them about what it means to buy locally. “Through #ChamberLocalVicBC, we have local business owners talking about why they’re local,” said Williams. By buying with them, “you are buying something from a small operator whose family lives here, pays taxes, supports minor sports and stuff like that.”

A recent Retail Council of Canada poll also showed that Canadians feel more optimistic about their finances this year compared to last year, something the chamber hopes to capitalize on, according to their statement.
