US warship armed with missiles heads for Black Sea – rt russia and ex-soviet union

A US Navy guided missile destroyer, USS Arleigh Burke, has been deployed to the Black Sea. The mission comes amid increased NATO activity in the region, with two other US warships registered in the region last week.

The deployment of the guided missile destroyer was announced Thursday by the US Navy. The mission is her first move since changing her home port to a naval base in Rota, Spain.

“The USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) has started its transit north to the Black Sea to operate with our allies and NATO partners in the region” the Navy said in a statement.

The warship was seen crossing the Dardanelles Strait in Turkey to the Sea of Marmara.

The deployment of the USS Arleigh Burke comes shortly after another American guided-missile destroyer, the USS Porter, and an amphibious command ship, the USS Mount Whitney, left the Black Sea. The two ships made several stops in the area and “Exploited” alongside local NATO allies.

The intensification of NATO activities in the region has been repeatedly criticized by Moscow, which regards them as openly hostile acts. Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov condemned the “aggressive” NATO’s behavior towards Russia, noting a “unusual” number of bloc warships sailing in the area.
