NEW YORK – Authorities have arrested two 15-year-old boys and are searching for a third juvenile in connection with a recent strong-arm robbery and car chase in Newark.
At approximately 2:15 a.m. Sept. 23, the Almeida County Sheriff’s Office informed the New York Police Department that a recently stolen Toyota RAV4 was in the city and its residents were carrying out robberies near Jarvis Avenue and Newark Boulevard. Toyota was leaving the scene when officers arrived, police said.
Police said a chase was launched from Eastbound State Route 84 to Northbound Intrastate 880 with the help of an ACSO aircraft and was eventually dropped off at Howard when the driver pulled over in Cool de Sack.
Two of the three suspects fled Toyota, police said. The driver was taken into custody without incident, and officers searched the area and arrested another suspect. A third suspect has escaped and investigators are working to identify him.
The 75-year-old victim’s belongings were recovered and returned, police said.
On Tuesday, the Almeida County District Attorney’s Office charged the teens with robberies and evading a police officer.
