Toronto Police said gunshots erupted on Queen Street West near Dovercourt Rd. At around 3:30 a.m., but it was not immediately clear what sparked the shooting.

“We have no information that it came from an establishment,” said Insp. Nick Nei told CP24 at the scene. “It was on the street, from what I understood.”

He said witnesses called 911 “saying there had been an exchange of gunfire.”

About twenty shots were reportedly heard.

Emergency teams responded and located two victims – who apparently knew each other – who were allegedly shot dead in the shooting between an unknown number of assailants.

One man was shot in the leg, the other was shot in the stomach, Nei said, adding that both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are looking for a white sedan that was seen driving from the scene.

Two suspects were arrested and one was charged, but police did not immediately say whether the person charged was among the victims.

A gun was found and seized and a car was towed away from the scene.

A section of Queen Street West was closed all morning as police investigated.
