The Ptarmigan fire, which burned 86 acres, has now been contained to 20 contained fires, according to fire officials.
A report said about 300 firefighters were working on the fire northeast of Silverthoren, and Friday’s efforts focused on protecting two high-risk neighborhoods.
Hand crews formed firefighting lines Friday and structural rescue crews patrolled the Hamilton Creek and Upper Angler Mountain neighborhoods.
Residential areas near the fire are already being evacuated, residents should be prepared to flee at a moment’s notice. The entire burning area and the trails leading to it – including Angler Mountain and the Petermagan Trails – are closed by the US Forest Service. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 20% chance of thunderstorms in the area on Saturday and Sunday and low temperatures will remain below freezing overnight.
Smoke is expected from the interior of the fire over the weekend.
