It happened around 6pm when a Spirit Airlines plane was en route to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
As it was speeding for takeoff, Spirit Airlines said a bird flew into the plane’s engine. The pilot managed to stop the plane safely despite the engine catching fire.
The video shows passengers falling below the emergency exit to be safe.
A total of 102 passengers and seven crew members were on board at the time. Authorities say two people suffered minor injuries.
Spirits Airlines issued a statement on the incident:
“Spirits Airlines Flight 3044 from Atlantic City to Fort Lauderdale appeared as a large bird during a high-speed takeoff in Atlantic City, which entered an aircraft engine.
“The captain braked safely and brought the plane to a stop, signaled engine damage, and ordered evacuation according to our standard procedure.
All guests and team members evacuated the plane and were taken back to the terminal.
“Our guests will receive a full refund, a future travel voucher and the option to travel to Fort Lauderdale on another flight tonight.”
