Rylan Clark has revealed he was taken to hospital twice last year after suffering ‘heart failure’.

The television personality, 33, admitted she faced a terrifying ordeal during her split from husband Dan Neill, 43.

At the launch of his new book Ten: The Decade that Changed My Future, he said: ‘I didn’t just get mentally ill, I got physically ill.’

Following the break-up of her six-year marriage, the telly favorite stepped away from the spotlight for five months due to her deteriorating health.

He had previously claimed that he had only dropped to nine stone which led to him being admitted to hospital for ‘safety reasons’ after refusing to eat.

Saying: ‘I remember just going for the shot and suddenly this feeling goes through the middle of your body, on both sides, almost engulfs you, and you just stop and my heart stops’.

He added that the family members believed that he was only suffering from heart trouble but they believe it was more serious.

‘I knew it wasn’t right. Turns out my heart had to be restarted. I remember lying in Resus and I had all these pads with all these wires and I didn’t understand what it was.”

He continued: ‘It was then that I said, ‘What were the pads for?’ And they said, ‘If you weren’t breathing… because we’d have to restart you with electricity’.

‘You don’t even think about it when you’re there. So I didn’t just get mentally ill, I got physically ill.’

This came after Raylan revealed his body had ‘shut down’ and his mother Linda believed he had suffered a stroke during his health problems.

The presenter admitted he couldn’t even talk and gave a ‘slurred’ speech while taking time off from work.

‘My speech was only slurred. My mother thought I was having a stroke. My body just went away. I went to number 9 and I’m six foot four.’

An avid Eurovision fan, he has been a commentator for the semi-finals since 2018 but his notable absence during the 2021 contest raised red flags among friends.

Rylan continued: ‘Two days before I did Eurovision, everyone knew something was wrong when I wasn’t at Eurovision.

‘If I had done that, I might not have gone down so quickly. And when I say instant drop, it felt like minutes. I realized I had a job and I was closing.’

The former Celebrity Big Brother housemate, who claims she hasn’t stopped working since 2012’s The X Factor, admitted she needed a ‘break’.

He said: ‘It was difficult but on reflection, yes, I needed to stop. Maybe it was a combination of 10 years. I haven’t stopped since the day I went on The X Factor.

“Nothing stopped. I don’t regret stopping. I feel that if I try to keep up, maybe I can handle things better from a personal perspective. I’m not sorry I stopped.’
