Rockies fall to Marlins, 7-4 as Chad Kuhl and Austin Gomber fail

Stuck by one of Miami’s aces and unable to attack between the first and last innings, the Rockies lost 7-4 to the Marlins on Wednesday night and lost another road streak.

Bottom-seeded Colorado has dropped to 3–6–1 in the road series this season and 11–20 on the road from LoDo due to a loss at LoDo Park.

The Rockies were first on the board, setting up a run after Jonathan Daza’s double. Pablo López’s attempt to take Daza down hit midfield, lifting Daza to third, with Charlie Blackmon bringing Daza home with a sacrificial fly to give the guests a 1-0 lead.

But Miami took control of the game in the third against right-hander Chad Cool as the Marlins hit four runs.

Miguel Rojas led the frame with a single, then John Bertie’s RBI triple and Jazz Chisholm’s RBI single made it 2-0. Garrett Cooper, who had an eighth-inning RBI-winning double in the first round of the series on Tuesday, added two homer runs into center field to make it 4–1.

Meanwhile, Lopez retained control of the mound after being ripped off the first half. The Venezuelan right-hander had his sixth quality start of the season and looked like the same pitcher who knocked out the Rockies six innings at Coors Field in the May 30 Marlins win.
