Rio Ferdinand urged Liverpool to pull out all the stops in the signing race Erling Haaland before Manchester United, real Madrid and Manchester City.

The Borussia Dortmund forward is set to be one of the most requested forwards in the world at the end of the season when a release clause between € 75m (£ 63m) and € 100m (84m) million pounds sterling) may be triggered.

The 21-year-old has already established himself as one of Europe’s top scorers with 70 goals in 69 appearances for Dortmund.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a huge effort to bring the Norway international, whom he led at Molde, to United during his time at Old Trafford.

But Ferdinand believes Haaland would be in a better position to lead Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

‘I think it suits other teams better [than Manchester City]’Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“If I was Liverpool, I would take it right away.

“If he goes to Liverpool it’s a devastating front three. I don’t think it’s that hard for him to adjust if he goes to Liverpool. It’s a different system.

‘You see Jack Grealish went to Man City, [he is a] best player, brilliant player, we all love to watch him, but it’s pretty hard to adapt and get into this team. Few players go there and adapt immediately.

Meanwhile, Michael Owen believes Manchester City would be the best choice for Haaland and believes Mohamed Salah’s scoring record could suffer if the Dortmund striker moves to Anfield.

“When Liverpool are at their best they leave a hole in the center front. Firmino or Jota will come off [for] these tracks inside. I’m not sure Salah would score that many goals if Haaland was in the squad, ”said Owen.

“It’s an incredible prospect but I would have thought Manchester City would be more likely [destination].

‘I don’t know if there is some bad blood between Haaland, his agent, obviously his father [Alf-Inge] playing against Roy Keane at Manchester United.

“I’m not sure Manchester United is suitable. [Romelu] Lukaku just went to Chelsea and I don’t know if he would be suitable for Liverpool. Personally, I think of Man City.
