Man in Port Hope, Ont. Faces assault and mischief charges following domestic incident involving guns last week



According to Port Hope Police Department, officers responded on Nov. 19 to a call from a neighbor who reported a family dispute in a house involving an individual with a gun.



Police learned that an 18-year-old man was angry with an aunt over text messages and started pushing her. The suspect’s grandfather intervened.

The accused would then have seized a charge BB gun and pointed it first at her grandfather, then at her aunt as she tried to intervene.

The man fled before the police arrived. He was then located and arrested in the McCaul Street area and found in possession of two loaded Glock BB replica firearms, a container of steel BB pellets and 85 grams of marijuana.

The man was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of mischief under $ 5,000 and possession of over 30 grams of dried cannabis in a public place.

He was released on recognizance and will appear in Cobourg court in December.

His name was withheld to protect the identity of the victims in the domestic incident, police said on Wednesday.
