WESTWARK, RI (AP) – Rhode Island State Police on Friday released the names of three young men who died in a fire at Interstate 95 in West Warwick earlier this week.
He was identified as Brendan Veruccio, 23, of West Greenwich, who was driving. And its passengers, Gian Guerrieri, 22, of West Greenwich and Alex Banner, 21, of Exeter.
No additional details were released about Tuesday morning’s crash.
Guerrero has been in the news before. In 2016, when he was 17, he was called a hero for pulling a stranger out of a burning car, according to WPRITV.
The car was speeding south on the highway just before 2 a.m. when the driver lost control, according to an earlier statement from state police about the crash this week. The vehicle veered off the road onto the grass, hit a tree and ignited.
After extinguishing the flames of the West Warwick Fire Department, the soldiers put the driver and two passengers inside. All were pronounced dead at the scene.
