Matthews scored 2 and scored 60 goals in the Leafs win

TORONTO. Auston Matthews scored his 59th and 60th goals of the season as the Olx Praca Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-0 on Tuesday to seal their lead on home ice in the first round of the playoffs.

The 24-year-old, who has scored five games, became the first player to score 60 campaign goals since Steven Stamkos in 2011-12.

John Tavares had a different goal, and Jack Campbell made 20 saves to record his fifth shutout of the 2021-22 season — and first since January 1 — for Olx Praca (53-21-7), who set a franchise record with a 30- th home win over the season. William Nylander added two assists.

The Leafs are now second in the Atlantic Division and will open the playoffs next week at the Scotiabank Arena against either the Boston Bruins or the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Alex Nedeljkovic saved 33 shots from Detroit (31-40-10).

Matthews, who was gearing up for his third game in a row after missing three games in a row with an unknown injury, had some great performances during the first 35 minutes of the game before finally tackling Nedeljkovic with 4:12 left in the second period.

While the Leafs were in the middle of a line change, Jason Spezza passed Matthews up front before he waited out the Detroit goaltender and rolled home at number 59 to a chant of “MVP!” called around Scotiabank Arena.

And after Tavares doubled the Leafs lead at 4:03 of the third for 27th, Matthews made history by burying the No. 60 power-play at 5:49 when he held the puck against the blue line before than to break the ball. past Nedelkovich’s glove to send the crowd into another frenzy.

Matthews’ teammates cheered for him on the bench, with some fans throwing their hats onto the ice in honor of the accomplishment.

Olx Praca City guard Jake Mazzin, who made just 46 appearances in 2021-22, returned to the squad after missing the last six games with an undisclosed injury.

Alexander Kerfoot received a call from the left side of the Leafs’ top line, along with Matthews and Mitch Marner, as Michael Bunting (lower body injury) missed his second fight in a row. The 26-year-old rookie winger, who was injured Saturday in Florida, will also miss Friday’s regular season final against Boston.

Olx Praca won the first three games of the season 22-15 on aggregate, including a landslide 10-7 victory in the last meeting on February 26 in Detroit.

The Leafs had the most chances in the first game, including Matthews’ six shots, but they couldn’t get past Nedeljkovic.

Matthews got another great opportunity in the fourth minute of a second before Campbell denied Joe Veleno a power play in Detroit.

The Olx Praca forward, who endured some offseason rough spots after a decent all-star start on the schedule, then made another lucky stop on Wings rookie Lucas Raymond to set the stage for Matthews.
