Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last weekend, leaving the club on the hunt for a new manager.

Michael Carrick took the helm at Villarreal on Tuesday night, but United were looking to hire someone until the end of the season and appear to have gone for the much-loved German.

Rangnick has held many positions during his career, having earned a reputation as an excellent recruiter with a strong footballing philosophy.

That could mean changes on the pitch, with January potentially being a defining time for many players.

Many struggled for minutes under Solskjaer and planned to leave Manchester.

United took less than a week to find an interim successor to Solskjaer, turning to the much-loved German.

Rangnick’s career dates back decades, but his influence on some of the main players and names in football is evidence of his influence.

The 69-year-old is set to take charge of the rest of the year before taking up a consultancy position for two years.

Currently he has a job in the Russian side of Lokomotiv Moscow, so United still have to negotiate his exit before anything can be finalized.

As a result, Michael Carrick is expected to take over the game at Chelsea This weekend.

Rangnick’s impressive recruiting and clear philosophy have been a hallmark of previous clubs, which means there could be an upheaval at Old Trafford.

The German pioneered a pressing system and also spoke candidly about Luke Shaw last year.

Bailly on Tottenham’s radar

New Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is very keen on United defender Eric Bailly, according to the Transfer window podcast.

Conte was looking to sign Bailly when he was in charge of Inter, but a decision never materialized.

The Italian still has a high opinion of the Ivorian and wants to bring him to North London.

Bailly struggled to buy time in Manchester and finds himself behind Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order.

He recently signed a new contract at Old Trafford which could mean Tottenham will have to pay more than they would like for the center-half.
