A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including causing grievous bodily harm with intent, after a man was att*cked in Derry on Monday night.

The 35-year-old man was allegedly beaten by seven men with iron bars in the Cornhill area of ​​the city, in what the PSNI described as a “brutal att*ck”.

The incident took place on Racecourse Road at around 9.30 pm on Monday night.

The victim sustained injuries on his legs, shoulder and head.

He was later taken to hospital where his injuries are not life-threatening at this time.

A 60-year-old woman has also been arrested in connection with the att*ck.

Detectives believe Monday’s att*ck may be linked to another on Tuesday night on Leckie Road, which runs through Bogside and Brandyvale.

The latest victim, aged 38, was att*cked by two men with iron bars outside the flat shortly before 9pm.

He was then taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to his hand, arm and head.
