Judy Whittaker’s finale Doctor Who The adventure “The Power of the Doctor” saw nostalgia, action and fan-favorite come together for an exciting episode – but Thassmann got lost along the way.

Before the episode – the final part of Whittaker’s three-episode farewell – fans had high hopes for the Thirteenth Doctor and companion Yasmin Khan (Mandeep Gill) – dubbed “Thusman”.

After years of fan “shipping”, this year’s Easter special confirmed that the two have feelings for each other, and many were hoping for such a happy ending.

While our hearts weren’t ripped out in a “doomsday” style, what emerged was a disappointment.

What we got were the same longing glances and unspoken words that have plagued Thirteen and Yaz’s relationship since the beginning.

This episode saw the return of many. Doctor Who Icons including The Master (Sacha Dhawan), Cybermen, Daleks, Ace (Sophie Aldred), Tegan (Janet Fielding), Kate Stewart (Gemma Redgrave) as well as a few Doctors.

With so much going on, Yaz and Thira’s relationship simply lags behind, with a handful of interactions between the two ending any hopes Thasman might have had.

Doctor Who Has a long romantic history

gave doctor who‘s track record and the fact that Thirteen literally told Yaz that she loved him more than his wife River Song, it’s not unreasonable to assume we’ll see more in the season finale.

Since the return of Doctor Who 17 years ago, we’ve seen the Doctor’s epic love for Rose (Billie Piper), the unrequited love for Martha (Frama Agyeman), and the great love story that was the Doctor and River Song (Alex Kingston).

The closest we got to Thirteen and Yaz in the episode was when they were Sitting together atop the TARDIS as the Doctor faces the prospect of her regeneration – sharing their final moments together.

While the Doctor explained to Yaz that nothing could ever happen between them at the end of “Legend of the Sea Devils,” a big romantic ending would have been classic. WHO action.

In “School Reunion” we see the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) tell Rose that being together will never work – her meta-Crisis paired up with the Doctor.

In “Wedding of River Song”, he marries River Song, despite risking the entire universe collapsing on him and dying.

While I appreciate that her sticking to her resolve not to be with Thirteen Yaz shows her character growth, it’s disappointing that her lesson is learned in time to be a sapphic relationship. prevents

As for Yaz’s individual journey, even though we didn’t see his love for Thirteen come to fruition, there’s still something very precious about his individual arc.

It’s incredibly rare to see South Asians represented in the sci-fi genre, let alone a sane South Asian – and seeing Yaz show who she loves and what she means is truly beautiful. .

Mandeep Gill gives a strong performance, making Yasmin’s love for Thirteen clear, even when he is rejected.

But the lack of closure for Yaz was bitterly disappointing. Although we never see him reach his full potential, just like Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), I hope we see more South Asian characters in it. Doctor Who Who become unapologetic themselves.

Despite Thassmann’s disappointment, the episode had several standout moments.

Apart from some dialogues and scene changes that felt haphazard during his last few seasons, Sacha Dhawan’s return as the Master was truly excellent.

Be it the iconic moment in which he dances to Bonnie MK’s Rasputin or his glittering frenzy spikes – it took the entire episode to another level.

Meanwhile, the energy and dynamic between Tegan, Ace and Kate was something wonderful Doctor Who Energy

And, Thassmann aside, Whittaker did not disappoint with final speeches full of his anxiety and desire to move on.
