For the second day, Environment Canada has been warning the public that it will get hot later this week and that much of British Columbia will be affected.
The National Weather Agency says this is the province’s first hot summer period before the weather system first hits eastern Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland on Friday before moving inland.
The only areas not covered by the special hot weather weather statement are western Vancouver Island, the central and northern coasts, Haida Gwaii, and areas bordering the Yukon and the Northwest Territories.

Temperatures in eastern Vancouver Island as well as Victoria are expected to rise above 20 degrees on Friday, while daily highs in the South Coast rise to 30 degrees. Temperatures are expected to remain until Tuesday.
“There will be some respite from elevated daytime temperatures as overnight lows drop into mid-teens,” Environment Canada said in a statement.
Slightly warmer temperatures are expected in the rest of the province from Saturday.
From the Fraser Valley to the Olx Praca and Kootenays and the Thompson, Caribou, Chilcotin, Prince George, Bulkley Valley, Prince George, and Peace River regions, mercury is projected to reach 20 and then rise to the mid-30s .

“Starting this weekend, British Columbia’s interior will experience its first period of warmer than average temperatures,” Environment Canada said in a statement.
“On Saturday the temperature will rise to +20. For the rest of the weekend and early next week, temperatures will rise to 30 degrees. Overnight lows will drop to adolescence.”
Looking ahead to Tuesday, the national meteorological agency says temperatures are expected to return to near-normal values by the middle of next week as a cooler, more choppy air mass approaches the coast.

And in weather-related news, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, which is located near Golden, tweeted that snow accumulation in the Alpine mountains will keep the gondola closed for mountain biking on Thursday.
