Sandra Howard is hoping supporters of two rival candidates in the Tory leadership race will put an end to the rivalry at the launch party for her new novel, Love at War.

‘I know both Rishi and Liz will have supporters from Tory MPs and senior politicians,’ says the model-turned-writer, who is married to former Tory leader Lord Howard.

‘But while they may disagree on tax and policy, I think it’s highly unlikely that anyone will get into any heated political debate, after all, which is what the book is about.’

Tim Bonner of the Countryside Alliance told me that Peckham should be ‘free to express his views… but the BBC should be equally clear that it cannot employ presenters who are not impartial. for destroying his reputation’.

A BBC source says Peckham is not bound by its neutrality guidelines, as he does not work in news or current affairs.
