Dance Victoria, the theater company host free broadcast of holiday classic The Nutcracker – Victoria News

Dance Victoria celebrates its silver anniversary by bringing a popular holiday ballet classic to homes in Greater Victoria.

Residents, snug in their homes, can follow Clara on her adventures against the Mouse King and into the magical candy land where dancers from far-off lands entertain her and her dream prince, thanks to Dance Victoria and the Royal and McPherson Theaters Society.

“We are delighted that our friends at Ballet Memphis contacted us with their filmed version of The Nutcracker when it became clear that we weren’t able to perform a Nutcracker live at the Royal Theater this year,” said Stephen Whit, executive producer of Dance Victoria. .

The enchanting hour-long vacation classic made for television was filmed in the historic Mallory-Neely House in the Victorian Village neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee. The streaming ballet – available to watch December 9-12 – kicks off Dance Victoria’s 25th anniversary season.

“Over the past 18 months, our web team has been working hard to expand our capabilities and implement a new product to deliver digital content through our website. We are excited to use this new capacity to partner with Dance Victoria to present this holiday tradition, ”said Franz Lehrbass, Executive Director of the Royal and McPherson Theaters Society.

Free virtual tickets are limited with online registration at rmts.bc.ca.
