Child killed by train in Mississauga: Police – Toronto

Police say a child has died after being struck by a GO train in Mississauga Tuesday evening.

In a tweet, Peel Regional Police said the fatal incident occurred in the area of ​​Lolita Gardens and Silver Creek Boulevard in Mississauga around 7:39 p.m.

A child was hit by the train and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said the child was four years old.

“The loss of a child is nothing short of a tragedy and my heart goes out to their families and loved ones as they grieve this unspeakable and irreparable loss,” he said in a tweet.

Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services said in a tweet that a child was struck by a GO Transit train in the area of ​​Dundas Street and Cawthra Road, the closest intersection of the roads, police said.

A railway line used by GO Transit’s Milton trains and commercial freight runs through the intersection, crossing both Cawthra Road and Dundas Street, running parallel to Lolita Gardens.

“This evening, we were notified that a person was struck by one of our trains west of the Dickey GO station,” said a spokesperson for Metrolinx, which operates GO Transit.

“Unfortunately the man, who is reportedly a juvenile, has been pronounced dead by Peel Police.”

Metrolinx said it is providing grief counselors to crews and staff investigating the scene.
