Police are appealing for the public’s help after a woman was att*cked by two dogs and left with horrific injuries.

Sarah Blaylock, 56, still struggles to walk two months after the incident and at one point faced the prospect of plastic surgery.

His leg injuries were so bad that they were likened to injuries inflicted by garden machinery.

And the att*ck was so quick and brutal that Sarah still can’t remember some of the details.

He said of the incident in Rossett, Wrexham, on Sunday, July 24: ‘I must have blocked it.’

North Wales Police have since obtained details of the dogs who may have been involved and are trying to trace a dark-coloured Vauxhall Insignia estate which may have been driven by their owners.

Both dogs were of the ‘mastiff type’, one grey, the other brindled.

At the time of the att*ck, around 8.35pm, Sarah was walking her dog, a springer spaniel called Wolf.

As she was walking through the Rosette Business Park, she heard a howl and saw two dogs charging at her.

‘It all happened so quickly,’ she said. ‘I imagine the woman screaming because the dogs were loose and running towards me. Later, the police told me I shouldn’t have run, but it was my instinct, and looking back now, I wish I hadn’t.

‘The dogs were circling us. I stopped running when I saw that one had pinned the wolf on its back. I didn’t realize but the other one had followed me. He att*cked me but I don’t remember actually being bitten.’

A man arrives at the scene to retrieve a pink phone dropped by his partner, promising Sarah that he will return to check on her condition. Instead, the couple jumped into their car and sped away with the dogs, leaving Sarah bleeding on the road, according to police.

Amazingly, she managed to stagger some distance before a startled motorist pulled up to offer help. As he was bleeding profusely, and she didn’t want to ruin the Good Samaritan’s car, the two drove to Lewister, where help came through the Serpent’s Head pub.

Sarah’s husband Mike took her to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where X-rays were considered amid fears she may have broken her shinbone. Even now, two months later, with her wounds being dressed three times a week, the infection has set in.

Friends panicked. One woman wrote on Facebook: ‘You should have seen his leg. ‘He looked like he’d been run over with a hedge cutter.’

His family is still dealing with the aftermath. Sarah, policy manager at Cheshire West and Chester Council, was given two weeks’ leave and is now back at work in her Rosette home office. But she has been forced to lie down, leaving her unable to socialize, walk with Wolf, and do many of the household chores.

She said, ‘I was in shock but I didn’t feel any pain at that time. ‘I think it affected Mike more because he had seen the injury and had to deal with everything that came after that.

‘Hospital A&E said they were the worst dog bites they had ever seen. I believe the worst happened because the dog’s owner tore him off me while his jaws were still attached to my leg.

‘I’ve been told to take it easy, to give the muscles and tendons time to heal. I’ve just started doing short journeys in the car but if I do too much my leg swells up again.’

NWP Wrexham Rural Police Team is asking the public to help trace the owners of the Vauxhall Insignia. ‘They can help with the investigation,’ said a spokesman. ‘We would also be interested for anyone who knows of similar dogs to come forward.

‘The dogs were with a male and a female. The female is described as approximately 5ft 5 with brown hair tied back, and the male is described as the same height with black hair. The pair walked off with the dogs before the man returned and picked up the pink phone.’

Sarah hopes the appeal will help others avoid what she went through. ‘It has ruined our summer but it could have been a lot worse,’ she said. ‘A centimeter or two to the left, or a little deeper, and the dog could have hit an artery and I would have bled out.

Anyone who can assist with the investigation is urged to contact police via 101 or the NWP live web chat facility. The crime reference number is 22000533629.
