India will face Australia in the final of the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 on Sunday (February 10). This match is going to be held at Willowmoor Park, Benoni. India has qualified for the finals of the age group tournament by winning all six matches played so far. The Boys in Blue will look to come up with another super show in the final against Australia to win the Under-19 World Cup for a record sixth time.
Ahead of the final clash against Australia, here's how India has performed in the eight Under-19 World Cup finals played so far:
2000: The final of the 2000 Under-19 World Cup was played between India and Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo, in which the Mohammad Kaif-led Indian team defeated Malintha Gajanayake's Sri Lanka by six wickets. The Indian team achieved the target of 180 runs in 40.4 overs at the loss of four wickets.
2006: In the final of the 2006 Under-19 World Cup, India suffered a shocking defeat by 38 runs against arch-rivals Pakistan. In the match played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Ravikant Shukla-led Indian team managed to bowl out Sarfaraz Ahmed's Pakistan for 109 runs but failed to chase the target of 110 runs and lost the match.
2008: The Virat Kohli-led Indian team defeated Wayne Parnell's South Africa by 12 runs (D/L method) in the rain-affected final of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Puchong.
2012: Indian captain Unmukt Chand scored an unbeaten century (111) to help the Boys in Blue chase down the target of 226 for the loss of four wickets against Australia at the Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville on 26 August 2012 and win the 2012 U-20. 19 World Cup titles.
2016: In the final of the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, Ishan Kishan-led India suffered a five-wicket defeat against Shimron Hetmyer's West Indies. In the final played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, the Indian team was all out for 145 runs and the West Indies chased it down and became the champion for the first time.
2018: The final of the 2018 Under-19 World Cup was once again played between India and Australia. In the final match held at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Team India led by Prithvi Shaw defeated Jason Sangha's Australia by 8 wickets. Opener Manjot Kalra scored 101* runs for India in the run chase.
2020: Bangladesh defeated India by three wickets in the final of the 2020 Under-19 World Cup played at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. The Indian team was all out for 177 runs in 47.2 overs and Bangladesh achieved the required target at the loss of seven wickets.
2022: The Yash Dhull-led Indian team became champions for the fifth time in history by defeating England by four wickets in the final of the 2022 Under-19 World Cup played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda.
